Water memory

The snowcouple we built in the churchyard
stand awkwardly, side by side, like grandparents
in photographs until the rain loosens
their shoulders and they fall against each other.

I’ve watched their features blurring, cheek to cheek,
ellipses where their mouths should be
and every touching part grasps at the other,
forgetting its proper shape.
